To combat corrosion, neodymium magnets are coated on the outside. Most commonly they will be coated with nickel-copper-nickel, but can also be coated with epoxy, gold and parylene.
It is important to know that neodymium magnets are very hard and brittle and can break if they are dropped. Neodymium magnets can be assembled into products that use strong adhesives, but contact surfaces should all be clean and dry before bonding.
